Clinton : Buttoned down disco
The best bit is the sampled Israeli disco singer, but she's probably only there as a sodding ironic statement.
That's 'disco' in inverted commas, of course. In the post-Air, lo-fi dilettante sense of the word rather than vulgar populist anthems like the Moloko single which
actually
make people want to dance. Ugh! Perish the thought.
In fairness, we
love a bit of irony round our way D or do we? AHA! But there's just something a touch half-arsed and smug about this indie-tronic Cornershop spin-off with its wilfully clunky synths and thumpingly unfunky beats.
Like 'Brimful Of Asha', this might
possibly cut it as a great record if Norman Cook got his hands on it. The best bit is the sampled Israeli disco singer, but she's probably only there as a sodding ironic statement.
To
paraphrase 'Ironic' by Alanis Morissette,
'Buttoned
Down Disco' is like "10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife". In other words, a serious cutlery imbalance.
