If previous Avalanches releases were rather less than the sum of their many sampled parts, 'Since I Left You' is the record to unlock your hard heart, and suddenly make The Avalanches make sense. It's the sound of The Stylistics, backed by the Love Unlimited Orchestra, disappearing over the horizon on the deck of a Pacific cruise-liner, while being remixed by someone on Skint. Tweaked by a high-end note of sadness, it walks a very fine line between saccharine and sublime. Charity shop choon of the week.
