Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia/ Moonkat : I Only Wanted Something Else To Do But Hang Around
A predictable exercise in self-defeating indie.
Split single between two
Oxford bands, and a predictable exercise in self-defeating indie. Meanwhile... call themselves an 'art-collective', which sets off alarms straight away, and offer two tracks ('No Cigar' and 'Morning After Pill') which follow
a familiar formula: female voice speaks unintelligibly in Arab Strap manner, then everything gets really noisy in Mogwai manner. Result? Listener falls asleep in bored manner.
Moonkat, on the flip, have a terrific tune called 'Leave Me Alone With My Disfigured Toys' - easily one of the best song-titles ever - which sounds like Kenickie being tortured with power tools, and another called 'Tonight I Am Discontentment' which is a good approximation of what would have happened if the Go-Go's had been obsessed with Sonic Youth.
