Teenage Fanclub / Astrid : Dumb Dumb Dumb / It Never Happened

Heady on a diet of future-juice and techno-buzz, yer dancey bigot will often approach records by the likes of the Fannies and mutter something along the lines of: "Why are people still making records like this in the 21st century?" It's a flimsy dismissal, instantly negated by the sheer gorgeousness of this fine single, messrs Blake, McGinley and Love coaxing power-pop loveliness from the simplest of ingredients yet again.

Should their knack for power pop ever fail them, aficionados are gestured in the direction of fellow Scots Astrid. The chirpy bubblegum muppets of last year have hatched into sad-eyed psychedelicists of the highest order, as this aching, Byrdsian single proves. The question should be, of course, why aren't more people making records like these?
