There's some who think that the Manics' knees have gone and that they will soon be hitting the canvas for the last time. That may be true. But 'Ocean Spray''s brilliantly distilled feelings of helplessness, desperation and loss are a timely reminder of just what can be accomplished within the confines of a swinging indie pop single, as well as adding a poignancy and melancholia to the imbibing of cranberry juice that the manufacturers of Ocean Spray never foresaw.
