Six By Seven : I.O.U Love
Like nothing else around, and all the more essential for that...
A very good song by a very good band who've somehow found themselves out on a limb, wondering where all the other surly indie boys went. Neither ugly enough for nu-metal nor wet enough for nice guy Travis-rock, Six By Seven have fallen between the two most successful guitar stools.
So it's hard to know how 'I.O.U' - their most commercially accomplished tune to date - will fit in, with its eerie keyboards and lilting melodies. No easy ride, mind: intense as ever, singer Chris Olley imbues this compulsive love song with both yearning and menace. Like nothing else around, and all the more essential for that.
