Platinum 45'sfeat More Fire Crew : Oi!
Our single of the week is 'so punk rock that its authors don't even know what punk rock is'...
The good news for the indie Mafioso is that in the end, the kids worked out how to beat the music biz man. The bad news for the indie Mafioso is that it was the kids who worked out how to do it, not them. 'Oi!' proves this.
'Oi!' started life in an East London community centre studio in May last year where a local producer, Platinum 45, and three teenagers called More Fire Crew made this elasticated three note garage rat-a-tat-tat white label about, inevitably, haters. Nine months later and the sheer goggle-eyed personality of the tune forced its way to the top of all garage and pirate charts, as well as securing a deal with Go Beat!. The Top Ten now beckons invitingly. It is the indie dream come true - only it's got a better tune, you can dance to it and everyone from your gran to your kid sister will shortly be singing "Oi! Who's that More Fire Crew?!´´ on a loop. So punk rock that its authors don't even know what punk rock is.
