Stone, Angie : Brotha
It takes care of its own bills and could happily go out with a scrub, if the scrub had a good heart...
Unlike much modern soul delivered by divas, ‘Brotha’ does not demand to see your credit rating before it heads out on a date with you. It takes care of its own bills and could happily go out with a scrub, if the scrub had a good heart. That’s what ‘Brotha’’s about. It celebrates the diversity of the Afro-American male - rich or poor: it says from scholar to sportsman, from husband to homeboy there is a lot to recommend having black in the sack.
This reviewer will have to take Angie’s word on that, but the happy, honey-dipped drawl she employs on this just-got-out-of-bed funk suggests she knows what she’s talking about. The remix features guest spots from Alicia Keys and EVE that should provide Ang with a deserved, overdue hit.
