Streets : Let's Push Thing Forward
A tune destined to convince a lot of old Specials fans they've liked garage all along...
"No sales pitch, no media hype," declares Mike Skinner, sounding a little disingenuous now his Streets album has received enough critical mad love to make The Strokes blush. Geezers probably need a hit single, however, so here's the brilliant 'Let's Push Things Forward', a tune destined to convince a lot of old Specials fans they've liked garage all along.
In truth, this muzzy ghost town skank has almost nothing in common with garage, save Skinner's not-unreasonable claims that he's quite a lot better than his competitors. But still, Ghostface Skinner's sly, irreverent call for musical progress leaves his hater-baiting UK competitors shooting themselves in the foot, metaphorically as well as literally. We'll have a little dance, shall we?
