Snubbing the twee-hugging electronica of yore, 'The Snare' finds Looper in concept album territory; the "concept" being that sax is good, tunes is bad and seriousness is the new, um, frivolity. What we get, then, is the theme from 'Get Carter' endlessly filtered through cheap keyboards as Stuart David mumbles like a man who has just done something really bad. Like make this album, for example. But wait - is that the ghost of a melody on 'Lover's Leap'? Alas, no: it's merely the desultory whoosh of a once-promising career as it plummets, irretrievably, down the art-pop pan.
