Tommy And The Chauffeur : KIds Chorus EP
'Plenty of luminous promise' from the Welsh Radiohead
None of them is called Tom. They are not chauffeurs. They cite Sigur Ros, The Cure and DJ Shadow as influences while carefully avoiding mention of a certain critically adored Oxford band who use a similar blend of processed rhythmic murk, shimmering guitar textures and aching falsetto vocals. OK, so being hailed as the Welsh Radiohead is hardly a laudable ambition, but TATCM drift into similar deconstructed soundscape territory with unforced style and passion, their guitars swooping and decaying, their voices a ghostly choir of desolate croaks and dying falls. Four songs, one spectral waltz, no filler and no waffle - just plenty of luminous promise.
