Breeders : Son Of Three

...an unexpected bruiser of a comeback...

Breeders : Son Of Three

The Deal sisters once seemed so precious that every dramatic twist in their last decade of drug-damaged, self-destructive anti-careerism felt like a personal insult. An obsession that intense can’t last, of course. But just when you’ve finally kicked the habit, here they come again with an unexpected bruiser of a comeback album packed with lurching ramshackle jewels like ‘Son Of Three’, a two-minute garage symphony of bubblegum grunge, woo-woo gurly harmonies and body-snatching sci-fi eeriness. There’s a comedy cover of the Buffy theme too, snurk snurk, plus an inessential live tumble through ‘Safari’. But Kim and Kelley Deal remain the anti-Appleton sisters of junk-scarred fun-punk, forever laughing at the funniest private in-joke in the world.
