Queens Of The Stone Age : No One Knows
...both jaunty and menacing at the same time...
"A record you could live in for months," said NME of 'Songs For The Deaf' back in August. "A record a few record company executives have got lost in," might've been more apposite, since it's taken until now for them to extract a single from its clammy grasp.
'No One Knows' was undoubtedly worth the wait, mind, since this tale of pills stuck in throats, deserts of the mind and all the other usual intimations of dark deeds finds Josh Homme pulling off the unusual trick of being both jaunty and menacing at the same time. Who needs Dave Grohl (apart from theFoo Fighters, obviously) when you have songs this great?
John Mulvey
