Coldplay : The Scientist

As the highlight ofColdplay
’s glorious coming-of-age set at Glastonbury, ‘The Scientist’ is a song inexorably linked with the endless night sky and the secret hopes and regrets of a hundred thousand strangers ((I)Nice one – Mills & Boon Ed(I)).

It’s a simple reverie for recently shattered love, with Chris Martin pulling off that almost impossible trick of striking a universal chord with two lines in a chorus, in this case "Nobody said it was easy/no one ever said it would be so hard". You do expect the guitar part from ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ to strike up and for Noel to crash in with the big singalong, but that’s a mark of how far Coldplay
have come. Superb.
