Blur : Don't Bomb When You Are The Bomb

Blur once did knowing art-yob-pop better than anyone. But recent attempts to locate the cutting edge have been desperately unconvincing: does, say, Alex James (i)really(/i) spend all day at home listening to Faust, John Zorn and njarka fiddle music? Does he balls.

Anyway, 'Don't Bomb When You Are The Bomb', released on limited edition seven-inch only, doesn't have many guitars on, which is ironic as it's the kind of record the recently departed Coxo was busting to make when the rest were gooning about in Chelsea FC tracky tops: marble-free weird-hop with 'Roobarb And Custard' synth squelching and pneumatic drills on a krautrock undercarriage. It's a new direction. Just not a very loveable one.
