Blanche : Who's To Say?
...an alt.country saunter of a familiar type, but a distinguished quality...
Funny choice for runner-up – one suspects Blanche have never run anywhere – this is an alt.country saunter of a familiar type, but a distinguished quality. Reminiscent of the Handsome Family in its dark humour, ‘Who’s To Say’ is a tale of hanging on for someone to change their mind about a relationship, which borders on the stalky, and it’s great. Two other cool things: one, Jack White used to be in a band with the main guy here. Two, the main guy in Blanche is called Patch Boyle, which sounds like a medical condition.
Oh, and the guitar solo, as White Stripes nerds will immediately spot, is by Jack White. Truly, his Snoop Dogg-esque ubiquity belies the non-work ethic of the itinerant guitar band tosser.
