Somewhere way, way the hell out of our solar system lays the planet DFA – if
you want more specific directions take a left at the planet OutKast but steer well clear of the Pop Idol' black hole. The planet DFA is full of pe'ople so much cooler than you that its not even funny; they dress perfect, look perfect and when they dance, if they can be bothered, they’re fucking ice cold.
Their king is James Murphy, who sits in a throne made of vinyl above a S'aturday Night Fever' style light up dancefloor, and looks proudly over his shockingly gorgeous people. Losing his edge? Not fucking likely.
For yes, Mr Murphy and his ‘Soundsystem have done it again. ‘Yeah’ is the sound of twenty great songs rolled into one and with its vocal refrain of ‘yeah, yeah, yeah…’ it’s a cinch to sing along to as well. The song takes you on a journey through everything that’s great about dance music; starting off like ‘Disco Inferno’ can never be a bad thing, and ending up nine minutes later
thwacking the hell out of Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State Of Consciousness’ is close to godly.
In-between the two we get the sound of the best party ever with Murphy mouthing off with Nancy Whang from fellow DFA-ers The Juan Maclean. Bear in mind this is the sound of a party that you will never in a million years be invited to - unless you’re sent The Rapture’s invites by mistake - so take in as much of it as you can now. Then there’s the bleeps, crashes and bangs and - hallelujah - there are bongos as well. The dance music check list rounds itself off by disseminating the ghost of electroclash and even has time to offer up some screechy mental puppy killing techno.
With startling ease, LCD Soundsystem are becoming close to legendary, grab a part of that legend.
