Do you know someone who claims to be into ‘funky house’? If you do, slap them. It is not possible to have funky house music. The two styles are mutually exclusive, end of story. If your friend persists, then play them ‘Strangest Things’ as an example of genuinely funky modern dance music. The opening 20 seconds combine squelchy sex-bass and metal guitar stabs, and it just gets better. Our good friend Mister Disco Wah Wah Guitar joins in the fun, as does a vocalist who sounds like Allison Goldfrapp possessed by malevolent demons. ‘…Things’ racks up at least four separate verses that would stand up as choruses in their own right and a fantastic disco breakdown that’ll set glitterballs a-spin in your mind.
