M83 : Teen Angst

French space-rockers go large

M83 : Teen Angst

Crikey! Just as in five years’ time you know that no-one will ever write about Elbow in an excitable way, so it is clear that the sound of emergent French space rockers M83 will resonate through the decade. On the back of gigs alongside the likes of Interpol, The Killers and – most crucially – Secret Machines, they deliver their most telling blow yet in ‘Teen Angst’. The sound of a blissed-out Bono waking up on a shuttle orbiting Saturn, it delivers synthetic bliss and rock-out thrust all at the same time, and like all the best records, has lyrics you can’t work out even after the 25th listen. There are some rotten remixes too but – hey! – they’re only human.
