Album review:

What is this grand concept you’re trying to communicate, Röyksopp? With all the guest vocalists on the Norwegian knob-twiddlers’ third effort being Swedish females, on paper it seems the duo are turning out glacier-cool electro-pop with added agenda. It’s a shame, then, that instead of a sequence of whip-smart sonatas ruminating on the Scandinavian psyche, all that dribbles out is a pedestrian stream of the same old bubble-bath beats. Appearances from Robyn, Lykke Li and The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson succeed only in highlighting how much better their own records are. Perhaps follow-up ‘Senior’ will feature Finnish men screaming about elk and when the two are heard together, greatness will suddenly reveal itself. But probably not.
