reinventing American guitar music he'd surely have shot himself several years earlier. For rather than bequeathing us a world where 'uncommercial' music could thrive, he left us a music industry which sees dysfunction and angst as marketable commodities. "Be a rebel," as John Lydon sneered, "join the Army."











Filter, constructed around former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Richard Patrick, are high up in the hierarchy of the new metal. Incredibly, on the fairly subdued 'Take A Picture', he doesn't start wailing like Perry Farrell until we are at least three minutes into this innocuous trip-pop opus for which, if nothing else, we should be slightly thankful.
