Various : Last Night A DJ Saved My Life
Pretty damn essential...
A trawl through some of the most important club cuts from the '60s to the '90s, this compilation purports to trace a line through DJ styles from Northern Soul to hip-hop to house. Quite why it begins with Handel's 'Largo (Intro)', then, is a mystery.
Necessary or evil? Pretty damn essential, for the fact that each track from each era has been picked with care. The Wigan Casino set are repesented by the ultra-rare 'Do I Love You (Yes I Do)', old skool hip-hop gets the ace 'Red Alert Chant' from DJ Premiere, and disco appears in the Salsoul Orchestra's 'Love Is The Message'. 8/10
