'LIl Bow Wow : Bow Wow (That's My Name)

When he's not pushing water up a hill, Jermaine Dupri - the man who brought us Kriss Kross - likes a challenge. "These days in rap," he says, "kids don't have a role model". So, here's his latest protegee, Lil Bow Wow rocking the mic on a profanity-free tip. Must be hard for the lad, since he made his live debut with Dre and Snoop aged six. And even harder for the legions of American teens who got into hip-hop precisely because they wanted to swear-along like fuck, er, bitch. 'Bow Wow (That's My Name)', for its part, is a fly, funk-squelch of a tune with more bounce to its in-no-way-a-drugs-reference ounce than most pop-rap. Plus, Lil Bow Wow does look to have his trousers on the right way round.
