planning to invent early next year, Candidate know their way around a cello and a well-tuned acoustic guitar. This is thoughtful, wry, quietly cheeky lo-fi balladeering somewhere between Gomez at their best, Scott 4 at their least obscure and former Bonzo Dog Band songsmith Neil Innes at his most bittersweet. Sly little details, like surreal quotes on the CD artwork and dry rice sealed inside
sleeve, point towards a healthy dollop of weirdness below their tranquil surface. Well worth a fabricated movement, we reckon.
