Jurado, Damien : Chevrolet

So quiet and peaceful you can actually hear birds tweeting in the background of this recording. Which is lovely, there simply ain't enough birdsong in modern pop.

Not that this quite wonderful record needs any help from nature. Jurado, 23 (although he sings with a timbre that suggests a man with three times that life experience), from Seattle, carves

out

a perfect front porch of The Waltons' house-type vibe with this three-track single. It's folk, Jack, but don't let that put

you

off.

Those familiar with Loudon Wainwright's first album will recognise the same touchingly bewildered tones here, and those unfamiliar can use this as a way in. Nice and tidy. Soft and frazzled. Anything Elliott Smith can do, this man may soon

do

better.
