Single Of The Week - BOGDAN RACZYNSKI : Muzyka Dla Imigrantow

Yu can order a limited copy of this forlorn beauty from

Bogdan Raczynski is a Pole living in Toronto, whose career has been typified by splenetic avant-acid which makes Squarepusher sound demure. 'Muzyka Dla Imigrantow', however, is his 'roots' record, with electronics largely jettisoned in favour of accordions and quavering trumpets.

What's most engaging here is the lack of irony and subversion. All six tracks feel profoundly heartfelt, imbued with a quiet, stoic sentiment, with the astounding lead track, 'Dluga Podroz W Chmurach', like listening to an unsteady jazz band playing all night on a train crossing Eastern Europe.
