Fun-Da-Mental : The Last Gospel
There's rage, fury, angst, funk, hope and glory all rolled into one EP...
A big fat wall of bass collides with an army of fiddlers, qawwali vocalists launch spiritual harmonies skywards and a barrage of FX wrestles against a tribalistic South African drumfest. The result of a 12-month globetrot by Nation/Fun-Da-Mental head honcho Aki Nawaz, in some hands this four-tracker would come across as a sort of cultural rampage; Nawaz makes these sonic collisions sound like the most natural thing in the world. There's rage, fury, angst, funk, hope and glory all rolled into one EP, which is some achievement by anyone's standards.
