The Last True Family Man
Even after declaring, "Fatboy Slim is fucking in heaven", [a]Freddy Fresh[/a] remains the choice of the big beat obscurist....
'The Last True Family Man' is teeming with the selfsame must-party 'vibe' that Fatboy Slim is touting and if it's a squelchy samplathon you're after, then it's all back to Freddy's. He'll be the one doing the conga with Norman.
Which is fine and dandy on the Shaft-goes-disco 'It's About The Groove' or the Fatboy-featuring 'Badder Badder Schwing' but 22 tracks on, it swiftly dawns that this is one bloke pissing around with a sampler.
Every track has a drum loop, every track has scratch squiggles, and every single sodding track has some bloke shouting, - and if it doesn't, it sounds like it ought to. No problem for 'It's A Latin Thing''s skewed space-funk. Cobblers on too much of the rest of it.
It ends with a barrage of cut-up voices. "Fantastic," proclaims one.
"I'm vomiting," rasps another.
Both sound about right.
