Tweet : Southern Hummingbird

Missy Elliott protégé's so-so debut...

Timbaland's tutoring Bubba Sparxxx, Fabolous is pulling on DJ Clue's baggies and now Missy's got herself a protégé: Charlene 'Tweet' Keys is the first signing to her Goldmind label.

'Southern Hummingbird' is an agreeable if rarely thrilling collection of R&B (see 'Oops' and 'Call Me'), soul ('Smoking Cigarettes') and disco ('Boogie 2nite') singles. But as an album '…Hummingbird' lacks front to back cohesiveness, while Tweet is short on the vocal character necessary to truly bring these beats to life. Then again, if it's the future of R&B we're after, maybe we should be looking to our own Ms Dynamite, rather than Missy's Tweet.
