Lambchop : Is A Woman

It's hard not to be impressed by the stoic discipline of the dozen or so musicians in [a]Lambchop[/a]

. Although at least half a dozen of them play guitars, the sound they collectively make is roughly equal to one gently creaking floorboard. A form of torture, perhaps, exacted by their leader Kurt Wagner while he spins his exceptional tales of the women, insects and really bright dogs that gather on his Nashville porch.

Two-and-a-half minutes into 'Is A Woman', however, Wagner's lackeys exact their awful revenge, shifting his latest charming reverie slides out of his control and into the kind of gormless reggae-lite normally played by alcoholics on cruise liners. "That'll teach the softly-spoken little Hitler," you can almost hear them snigger. "And next time - we rock."
