Max Tundra feat Becky Jacobs : Lysine

No two bars in 'Lysine' contain the same drum pattern. That's it. That's the entire track, the entire conceit. Ben Jacobs (London massive-headed avant-electronicist Max Tundra's real name) has roped in his sister to warble some sub-jazz funk over the top of it all. And while that seems like a sibling leg-up, he would have done her career less harm by taking her outside and shooting her. 'Lysine' sounds like an incomplete demo, like a bedroom keyboard nerd showing his aunts and uncles some new buttons. It is not so much a triumph of style over substance as a complete lack of ideas and invention dressed up as a brave new departure.
