It’s easy to feel cynical about another "new" release from a rapper who was gunned to death in 1996, but ‘Thugz Mansion’ pulses with intelligence and vitality, along with the inevitable dose of spooky prescience. Here 2Pac dreams about a gangstas-only hidey-hole away from the pressures of the street, a place that’s made to feel like heaven by a chorus about "a paradise in the sky". The clear subtext is that 2Pac knew where he was headed and is happy now. Amazingly, you almost believe it.
