Despite the best efforts of some (one punter spends 45 minutes relentlessly shouting “Corey Haim!” at the stage) tonight sees The Thrills determined to shed the burden of being a Byrds tribute band. So before the playful ditties about places in America not being that far away, we get the likes of ‘Long Forgotten Song’ – a plodding navel-gazer that sails close to the murky whirlpool of Keane B-sides. It’s one of several songs tonight that Conor Deasy refers to as their “quieter new sound”, and one that sees them ditching West Coast fun for Dublin melancholy. It’s a change we’re not sure we asked for. Daniel Nolan
