Golden Skans (Polydor)

New rave? Just a meaningless phrase destined for the Skunk Rock Memorial Home until pop’s politest caners sent forth ‘Golden Skans’
into the icy chart wastelands of January. In three exquisite minutes all that experimental talk of mixing JG Ballard and Giorgio Moroder coalesced into that most divine of things: the perfect pop single, an effortless amalgam of early-’80s pop and rave abandon (what a chorus: “Ooooooo ahhhh/Ooooooo ahhhh!”) all wrapped up in a video which effortlessly morphed The Jacksons’ ‘Can You Feel It?’ with the kooky craziness of Kajagoogoo. And what about those lyrics? Klaxons defied grey-pop convention with their insatiable glowstick dazzle. “Night touch my hand with the turning Golden Skans/From the night and the light/All plans are golden in your hand”. What on Earth did it all mean? Who gives a fuck anyway? The new rave was well and truly on.

I like Klaxons. At first I thought they were a crappy electronica type band but when I really listened to there music, it really want like that at all. I find it catchy and the lyrics are so screwed up cause they're on acid!

My ears waxed up for most of their songs, but this was great.

Great song, great video. One of the best on the album, I think. Reminds me of that video by The Foals...

Gold Skans perfectly captures what a dissapointing year 2007 was in musical terms.

That fly by night, superficial "Who gives a fuck"/new rave jibe was shite.

I hope 2008 bears better fruits. It's looking good so far.
