The Courteeners

No You Didn't, No You Don't

‘No You Didn’t, No You Don’t’ reveals Liam Fray of The Courteeners is probably a very polite, quiet little man, if the unutterable mediocrity and lack of big ideas that this song betrays, are anything to go by. Unbelievably colourless, malnourished indie blah with nothing to say for itself at all.

here, what is nme's problem with liam fray, so hes a bit of an arrogant dickhead..... so his songs sound blander than tesco value butter, so he comes up with crappy little lyricks that he probably thinks sounds cool ('and salty phrases') good one fray, so i completely understand what your sayin, but in contrast to that, there one of the best live bands ive seen, great atmosphere, great sound.

I don't understand at all what's with the Liam Fray bashing, I kind of really like the fact that he's arrogant, what's wrong with that. The Courteeners are a great band and so is the album although I do concede that this probably wasn't the best choice for a single.

Slight contrast to the review you gave of the same song before Liam slated you lot eh? Bitter much?Great band, Great song!

Brilliant song, Brilliant band, Brilliant album, the best thing to come out of Manchester since Oasis.

Ok there are a few points I feel I need to raise here. Firstly Liam Fray is not an arrogant dickhead... he should be labelled as one of the nicest guys in music cos everyone I know who has met has said he couldn't have been nicer - takes time out to talk to fans sign stuff etc etc secondly as few others have pointed out why has this song been reveiwed twice previously in NME and had a positive response...is the editor asleep?? And thirdly I think soundedd as hit the nail on the head....brilliant song brilliant band brillant album - which I am sure is view NME were taking not so long ago...

greg I totally agree with you, I managed to find the two other reviews you have printed of this track: album and b-side to cavorting and seriously how can this be so different to the first?Im afraid Liam has spoken out about your interview...particularly when I saw him at Manchester academy but it has made people think he is a loud mouthed yob that he clearly isn't, that is no reason to suddenly decide you dont like the song anywhereIts not my fav on the album but it is still a classic with some great cover tracks for the b-sides

Lets see what do we have in NME's 7 ouf of 10 St. Jude review: "Even more surprising is ‘No You Didn’t, No You Don’t’, a breezily nostalgic Smithsian jangle-pop wonder that truly bridges the gap between thug and hug. Consequently it’s easily the best track on the album." Erghm???

3?

how can you give this 3 stars when The Courteeners were NME cover stars but a few weeks ago ... its so indie blah it deserves 0 stars. a bit of consistency wouldn't go amiss

how often do nme give an album a great review then the follwoing single a shite one?Consistency would be nice you useless shower

I've known the courteeners for a while and No you didn't, no you don't has always been my favourite song. No matter what NME says, it has a great hit potential

what is more horrendous than this song (and believe me not many things are), is the god-awful cover of New Romantic. A true case of take a great song and make it bollocks.

a really good song not the best song on the album but still great rock on lads

This is such a great song! 2 other reviewers thought so too (look it up: Cavorting single review, + St Jude album review) So this is weird... It's my favourite song on the album after Please Don't. & Liam is such a sweet heart.

This song is diabolical, 3 stars is extremely generous.

Didn't like the courteeners to begin with, but then my Dad slipped it onto my iPod without me knowing and after a few good reviews i couldn't resist a listen. Good song, but i think i prefer Not Nineteen Forever.

listen to 'bide your time' and 'if it wasnt for me', that gives a better idea of the courteeners quality, bad choice for a single, great band though. To be honest it sounds like this Pete nob head hasn't actually listened to the whole album going by his silly slating of liam fray

NME... Tisk tisk. I believe that this is one of the best songs around. How can Liam Fray be an arrogant dickhead anyway? He's a sweetheart! My friend went all the way to London to buy St. Jude for me, from SEATTLE! It was well worth the wait. My single is on it's way. The Courteeners are AMAZING!

it's a good song, deserves more than a 3. It isn't the best on the album though

Typical NME, a band gets success and they slag them right off. Remember, they pegged these and Ting Tings as the sound of this year or whatever in January. This is their best song aswell. Courteeners are one of the best bands of the last few years

This is an awful review. 3 out of 10 is 3 marks to high.
