In 2003 you’d regularly find your intrepid reporter rabidly declaring Tom and Alex White to be the future of rock’n’roll. Am I wrong? Dig out TESP’s debut album, play ‘Start Again’ at top volume then reassess. Hey, how was I to know that the duo, instead of evolving from their exhilaratingly naïve Britpop homage into something important, would be happy churning out two-star dross like ‘Misunderstanding’ until the world ends? Because, alas, these straight-outta-1997 Bluetones guitar licks don’t belong in an era so advanced that computers can make a Simpsons character replica of you for free.
