The Maccabees

Toothpaste Kisses

Named after Biblical rebels from the second century BC and boasting complexions which wouldn’t look out of place at Henley Regatta, such is The Macs’ pop pedigree, they make even the Jing Jang Jong look slightly Twang-ish. Not for these Brighton via Clapham scamps the inner-city torment of The Enemy’s Tom Clarke. Instead, a crackle of needle on vinyl (nice touch!), gentle acoustic strumming and their most heart-felt pop nugget yet. “Lay with me/I’ll lay with you/We’ll do the things/That lovers do” sighs Master Weeks – and you can almost taste the Colgate.

Lurve this song...it's one of my faves off the album. 'I'll win your heart with a woo woo' is a great line and everybody in the ground whistles at gigs. I't Orlando's solo song and it's fantastic. Although slower than the others... it's still an anthem.

One of the worst songs on the album, and yet still excellent...
