a1 : Make It Good

Mark, Ben, Christian and Paul ditch their matching dungarees and centre partings for some rock’n’roll-lite...

Colossal pop tarts a1 score a direct hit with the listeners of Radio Derbyshire with this, their follow up to January’s ‘Caught In The Middle’.

Having grown too much pubic hair for the pop market, this is a concerted attempt to lure in the more mature audience – the collars-up, rugby jersey-donning, Daily Mail-reading audience of crossover pop-rock. So ‘Make It Good’ sees the wholesome foursome Mark, Ben, Christian and Paul ditch their matching dungarees and centre partings for some rock’n’roll-lite but, somewhat inevitably, they stop short of going the whole hog and mustering up a decent tune. Imagine Savage Garden joining forces with Turin Brakes to release a charity record for the ‘Restoration of Rugby Anglican Cathedral Fund’. But not as good.
