Baltimore band lack cohesion on their fourth LP
Married duo Katrina Ford and Sean Antanaitis formed Celebration in 2004 with drummer David Bergander. For the Baltimore band’s fourth album, keyboardist Tony Drummond and bassist Walker Teret have joined the family. The self-produced ‘Albumin’ shifts from post-punk (‘Razor’s Edge’), to dreampop (‘Walk On’), with seven-minute southern-fried jam ‘I Got Sol’ and piano bop-along ‘Only The Wicked’ jammed alongside. The whole thing is infused with a sense of hope (closer ‘Don’t Stop Dreaming’ in particular), but that can’t mask a lack of cohesion. The sultry vocal performance Ford maintains doesn’t rescue things either, as her bandmates pull the songs in different directions underneath her. While charming, ‘Albumin’ suffers from a distinct lack of harmony.
