No, the spirit of real punk rock is adolescent, confused and encapsulated within the bodies of four of Long Island’s tortured youth. [a]Glassjaw[/a]’s debut album, ‘Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence’, is the sound of horrible realisations slowly dawning. That people always let you down. That the world is full of shit. And most of all, that young love never runs smooth.
Although Ross Robinson, producer of ‘Slipknot’, is on board, [a]Glassjaw[/a] share nothing of the ‘Knot‘s caustic verse-chug-chorus-chug-verse dynamic. Rather, ‘…About Silence’ is ruled by an ebb and flow that recalls the freeform glide of Jeff Buckley – albeit, a Jeff Buckley doused in napalm, crawling through a room full of broken glass.
The closing ‘Motel Of The White Locust’ is a flamboyant explosion of scarred-knuckle rage, vocalist Daryl Palumbo spitting, bellowing, and screaming through what sound like very genuine sobs.
