Eyedress – ‘Supernatural’ EP

“I know I’m wrong and I’m sorry if I made you cry” sighs 23-year-old Manila-based producer Idris Vicuña on ‘Nature Trips’, the ghostlike opener to his debut release. It’s a slice of skittering bedroom-pop that veers from remorse to defiance (“I’ve been doing drugs cos I don’t give a fuck”). But it’s not until the grand ‘Tokyo Ghost’ that Vicuna eventually unveils how much pain he’s in. “Please don’t break my heart,” he begs with an air of resignation. “Please don’t break my soul”. ‘Biolumine’, meanwhile, is twinkling and otherworldly, and the instrumental ‘No Competition’ takes garage beats and slathers them with repetitive synths. It’s a heightened and ominous end to a sublime EP.
