Girls Names have a bright future in dark electronica
The Belfast band’s latest EP is made up of remixed tracks from 2013’s ‘The New Life’, adding various forms of electronica to their post-punk sound. It’s an approach that neatly complements the original record’s coldly romantic approach, often coming off like The Cure spliced with a clubby Kraftwerk. Factory Floor’s Gabe Gurnsey applies the sound of German minimalism to ‘Projektions’, while David Holmes re-imagines the title track as computerised krautrock. Girls Names have a bright future in dark electronica, and this EP signifies an artistic step forward for a band slowly becoming one of our most important art-rock acts.
