A strange Education
Glasgow’s The Cinematics are We Are Scientists’ favourite new band, and WAS have even appeared in one of their videos. At its best, their debut album is a mish-mash of angular guitar riffs and pulsing drums, with a nod to alt.rock godfathers Wire and Joy Division. The vocals on Interpol-inspired ‘Asleep At The Wheel’ strut around like Brett Anderson sizing up Robert Smith and ‘Break’ is a Magazine-esque new wave stompalong with a pretty, scampering bassline. But the problem is, the rest of
‘A Strange Education’ sounds like what Editors were doing two years ago and NME can’t help but feel that music’s moved on to bigger and better things without The Cinematics. Shame, really.
