Howl On The Haunted Beat You Ride
The Go are survivors of such standing that when the apocalypse comes, it’ll be just them and some cockroaches left standing. The albatross of being
known as Jack White’s old band has yet to
sink them, and the long-in-the-tooth Detroit outfit have also survived the industry buzz that enveloped their hometown a few years ago, making stars of virtually any soap-dodging local bar-band. Having long been obsessed with recreating the cream of ’60s British psych-pop, their third album sees them moving forwards in moving backwards; ‘Invisible Friends’ and ‘Caroline’ couldn’t be more faithful to the legacy of The Kinks
if they featured overdubs of Ray Davies being shot in the leg. These unashamedly retro concerns are pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things, but The Go at least execute them well.
