By the closing track, you’re in no doubt that’s what ‘A Taste Of Silver’ is
The first track on Cardiff producer Pete Laurie Winfield’s debut EP, ‘2025’ opens on a curious declaration: “I was born with my back to the stars”, he says with diction that sounds more RSC soliloquy than future-R&B manifesto. Yet by the time he reprises the phrase on the closing track, you’re in no doubt that’s what ‘A Taste Of Silver’ is. As a producer, Winfield splices together a wide range of influences. As a songwriter, he’s equally adept: “I would’ve killed Romeo and saved Juliet/But I don’t write stories that time won’t forget” he sings on ‘Romeo’. He doth protest too much.
