Forget krautrock: the London instrumentalists are delving into techno territory on their fourth album
Having explored the propulsive krautrock beat as the house band of Brixton’s Klub Motorik, Eat Lights Become Lights’ fourth album in as many years finds the instrumental idealists heading deeper into electronic territories. Fizzing opener ‘Velocet Vir Nesat’ and the handclap groove of ‘You Are Disko’ aside, the painstakingly assembled tracks on ‘Into Forever’ owe more to Kraftwerkian techno than the raw psychedelic thrill of the band’s live show. Sparkling synth melodies abound on ‘Time Enough’ and ‘Shapes And Patterns’, with only the meandering Pink Floyd indulgence ‘Vapour Trails’ dragging the journey down. The intricate clockwork construction of the title track is ‘Into Forever’’s crowning achievement, best representing the streamlined refinement of ELBL’s hypnotic sound.
