Last night (July 2), The Libertines crashed back into action with ‘Gunga Din’ – the reunited quartet’s first new track in 11 long years.
Dubby and Clash-influenced but with a huge, gutsy, classic Libs chorus, NME’s review enthused that the track “tumbles along with all the ramshackle passion and lusty, heart-on-sleeve emotion that’s at the crux of why The Libertines still matter so much to so many.”
We also spoke to longterm collaborator Roger Sargent about the making of the hedonistic video for the track and the artwork for forthcoming LP ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ (due September 4).
All in all, it’s been the most exciting 24 hours in Camp Libertines for a long, long while. But what do you all make of the likely lads’ return? We asked NME readers to tweet their reviews of the track and let us know if the boys in the band nailed it or whether you just can’t stand them now. Here are the best of your responses, below.
