Amy Winehouse

Back To Black

Occasionally, ‘Back To Black’ slips down the charts to Number eight, maybe nine. In fact, it’s only ventured out of the Top 10 once all year. This Deluxe Edition has already charted at 22, so there’s every chance that you’ll soon see the pair side-by-side. Disappointing, then, that the eight-track ‘bonus disc’ opens with a cover of a cover: a lo-fi version of ‘Valerie’. There’s an acoustic take on Phil Spector’s ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’ that breathes booze over the most straight-laced song ever, an adequate reading of ska standard ‘Monkey Man’ and a good demo of ‘Some Unholy War’. The printing smells expensive, the booklet looks nice – but the only thing that’d make you buy this is that there’s a free copy of ‘Back To Black’ attached. So, if you’ve never heard ‘Back To Black’,
this is worth an 8/10. But, if you bought this version hoping for some quality extra material…

Fantastic album. A clasic even at the point it was released.

Incredible, her voice is just incredible. Probably one of the best singers of our decade. Reminds me of Billie Holiday..

This is possibly the best album i have heard in years, amy is such an amazing artist and when you listen to this fabulous album you soon forget about her problems and soon realise that she is one of the best femail artists of the 21century i hope there will be a third album just as good as this masterpiece.

Oh Amy Amy Amy....Perhaps the music is good, perhaps the performances are excellent...but to say that someone is 'great' is a reference that sould be reserved for the likes of Ray Charles, Etta James and indeed Billy Holiday. To be authentic, you have to take your inspiration and make something new of it, and even the mighty Mark Ronson has not done so for Winehouse. This is a good 'version' of an even better style/genre.Sure Amy is good, and her album is good too. Not new though. Not great.
