Album Review: …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead – Tao Of The Dead (Century Media)

Leaving a wake of prog vitality as they continue their punk quest with their seventh LP

Another …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead record, another album adorned with artwork fit for a 4x4’s spare wheel cover. Fortunately, that matters zilch given the Texans continue the scintillating form rediscovered on preceding opus ‘The Century Of Self’. As their Punk Floyd brio dictates, ‘Tao…’ is replete with numerous concurrent running concepts, split into two thematic parts.

Potential pretension is blown to tiny slithers of lacerating prog come ‘Summer Of All Dead Souls’, though, while even tempo drops like ‘Spiral Jetty’ bristle with scarcely contained crackle. Sounding as vital as they ever have seven LPs down the track, there’s life in them yet.
