For all those Libsfans out there for whom ‘Fuck Forever’ was the final straw, look to Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys: the perfect combination of unfettered yoof and relative sobriety (well, they look kinda healthy). Just don’t go expecting any fantastical prose about journeys to Arcadia. For the Monkeys’ fiery new double A-side is as gritty and true-to-life as it can posssibly get – a couple of frenetic blasts about getting fucked over by girls and, erm, getting fucked over by girls some more. ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ is essentially The Smiths’ ‘How Soon Is Now?’ updated with a cocksure swagger. Cocky it may sound, but underneath lies a tale of being useless while out on the pull.

‘Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts’, meanwhile, will be familiar to anyone who’s ever lost their girl to a guy with a Vauxhall Nova and an ability to pull noisy skids as he boy-races around your local sixth-form college. And as Turner trades vocal barbs with drummer Matt Helders, you’ll be caught up in a vortex of pure, seething TEENERGY – for this is music capable of finding a pulse in the dead.

Fear not Libs fans, for it’s time to invest yourself in Arctic Monkeys. We guarantee they’ll pay you back in spades.
